Etan Pavavalung (1963 Pingtung Taiwan) is an aboriginal artist from the Pavan tribe, of the Davalang settlement in Sendinem, in Taiwan. He is a versatile artist, his creativity includes poetry, sculpture, prints. However his aesthetic identity is defined by his carved lines pattern style, which are linked with the Paiwan idea of “venecik” which refers to embroidery and carving, writing. Etan interweaves these lines with aboriginal culture and raises environmental awareness through poetic visions. The works featured in the exhibition are a manifesto of the inspiration and the intimate gaze between human and nature represented by the eye and the silhouette of the flower. The flower portrayed is a Taiwanese species: the taiwanese lily, which grows near clear waters.
