Vladimir Durnev (1984) is a Russian ceramic artist who recently moved to Taiwan. The “Island sprouts” are his first series of ceramic work he produced in Taiwan. Intricate forms of tropical sprouts and interlacing roots were a revelation for him. He perceives natural forms and texture as visual poetry that he tries to translate into sculpture language that he's practicing. The “Island sprouts” were designed to push the viewer to consider nature not just a living environment but as meaning-forming substance.  The installation on the floor on an island of soils, mimics the plants sprout emerging from the ground.
